About: Maxwell was once a starving artist who dreamed of being the best stage magician the world had ever seen. Unfortunately, he found a book of real magic, the Codex Umbra, and accidentally unleashed its potential, dragging him and his assistant into the Constant.

Eventually, Maxwell assumed control of the Constant - and it of him. Bound to the Nightmare Throne, he amused himself, and his captors, by pulling in other unfortunates with Faustian promises and bargains, until finally selecting Wilson Higgsbury, an up and coming scientist who up-and-came right to Maxwell's doorstep. Wilson took pity on the demon, and released him from the throne, incensing Maxwell's captors.

Now relegated to being a survivor at the mercy of the world he crafted, Maxwell has much humility to learn, intense gratitude for his newfound freedom, and continues to lean on the powers of darkness for survival and strength.

Content Warnings: Maxwell's origin canon (Don't Starve / Together) deals with issues like stressful mental breakdowns, unreality, interdimensional kidnapping, fae/faerie-tale style torture, death, grief, alienation, gore and violence. There are also themes of colonialism and civilization collapse. All the upsetting stuff will be tagged for, but if I ever miss a tag please let me know.
